Office Space

Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam! I swear to God one of these days I'm just going to kick this piece of shit out of the window.

A review by Mike Shea   Movie Rating: ( * · · · · )    DVD Rating: ( * * · · · )

You know a movie isn't going to get more than a two when it is an hour and twenty minutes and stars Jennifer Aniston. It is going to have to bust some serious ass to get that two, and frankly this one didn't. Office space is a movie to remind us working stiffs how much our lives suck and frankly, living half a mile from the Wilson bridge in North Virginia does that without any help. You get what you expect with this one, there isn't much of a surprise. Traffic, lousy parking, tight grey cubes and more. For a movie about lame office life, you have a ton of material from the years of dilbert cartoons, but they didn't seem to take it. Instead we get friggin Rachel from Friends starting every sentence with "Ok". Crap. There are a couple of well done scenes. The installation of the Superman 3 virus (thank God they cited it, it would have been over for me if they didn't) and the beating of the fax machine are a couple worthy pieces of work. Our hero's nightmares of his boss nailing his girlfriend while sipping a cup of coffee and talking about MTRs was another good bit. But these little sprinkles of taste did nothing to save a movie who had boatloads of material and nothing to show. If you want a real movie about the breakdown of corporate life, see Fight Club. Now that was 10x the movie this is. The DVD was a typical Fox dud with a pretty good 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack but no 16x9 enhanced picture and no extras. Frankly, this movies best feature is the fact that you get 40 extra minutes of your life back at the end. The other side to that is it was about an hour and twenty minutes too long.

Subject: Aniston a star?

Saying that Jennifer Aniston "Stars" in Office Space is like saying that Bernard Bloch stars in Ronin.

Making light of the horror of cube-life is a worthy endeavor. Making a steaming pile of crap like "Fight Club" is an exercise in the futility of convincing an educated person that violence for the sake of violence is entertainment. (Breakdown of corporate life? Are you kidding me?)

If you're considering this movie for purchase and Mr. Shea has turned you off... buy it anyway. It's certainly worth the money.

Ok, up above someone asks if anyone can tell him where people can see the animated short "Milton". No one answered him, maybe you all could now...

I love this movie. Every once in a while in an office scene, you can hear that damn secratary.... thanks for calling Initech... JUST a moment! ha!!

Whatever... You are just like the other reviewers... This one is just way over your heads. I call it a lack of humor. I hate nitpicky people.... What a waste.

Don't let this review phase or change your mind. Office Space is a movie worth checking and perhaps you may even relate your own life to this, unlike the reviewer of this movie...

Oh pwned!

Have you guys actually seen this movie!?!!
Aniston plays a minor part, and evenso it remains to be one of the friggin funniest movies ever! i do not understand people who condemn this movie because someone you don't like plays a minor (and i mean minor!) part!
the main characters were hilarious as hell!

so stop dissing this masterpeace and get some humour, because people who don't laugh at this movie, need a humour transplant!!!

*The thing is Bob, it's not that I am lazy, it's that I just don't care.*

Office Space is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Who cares that Jennifer Aniston is in it. The more you watch the movie the more funny parts you start to notice. Anyone that didn't enjoy this movie is nuts.

Subject: Sure Friends suX0r butt...

Seriously we all know that Friend's blows, but to knock a flick just because it has someone from that show? she doesn't even have a big part..

Anyone reading this though- if you haven't seen it and you can relate to the everyday routine of office life- this movie is hilarious!

Of course it doesn't compare to Fight Club- but FC wasn't a comedy was it? That's like comparing Strange Brew to Leaving Las Vegas- just because they both have drinking in them.

I think some people might be a little upset if he ripped off Dilbert. Actually, he used a lot from his own cartoon, Milton.

It's pretty obvious that you gave this moving a poor rating and viewed it with a biased frame of mind simply due to the fact that it starred a member from the cast of Friends.

Oh well, your loss. This was a great movie.

Fight Club is a good movie for office workers. Office Space didn't even have the guts to at least rip off Dilbert gags.

Subject: Friends DOES suck

I am sorry, but there has been hardly any movie with a friends character where they haven't been a friends character. Rachael was Rachael only now she works at a Denny's or something. Same friggin haircut, same friggin personality, might as well thrown Joey in there, although he is about the only one who stretched his acting portfolio with his amazing performance in Lost in Space.

Office space just didn't cut the mustard. Picking on office life is just too easy to do. There was a bit of creative directing but overall it just can't even come close to great comedies like The Big Lebowski or Rushmore. Everyone tried to convince me that Office Space was funny enough to break the friends rule. It wasn't.

Office space was a pretty good movie. it deserves more than 2 stars. It was pretty funny and I would recommend it to people to rent.

What the hell is wrong with you? Office Space is a very funny and entertaining movie. You have some kind of irrational belief that any movie with an actor from the Friends TV show is automatically crap. Get past it! You're a freaking nut!
