Silverado is a generic western for the 90s. Rather than the hard punk edge of Young Guns or the fury of Tombstone or the realistic darkness of Unforgiven, Silverado simply takes the same old formula and throws in star power. It isnt really bad, but it isnt great either. The roles played by Brian Dennehy and Linda Hunt (who played the Shadout Mapes in Dune!) are really well done, but the rest are pretty weak. There is some decent gunplay and some cool stunts, but the same tired plot is well...tired. The DVD was nicely done with a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack that was a bit heavy in the surround music, and a sterling 16x9 enhanced picture. There was a making of feature, but no commentary. Overall, I guess some folks liked the neat package this movie contains, but I myself like my westerns a little harder like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
