Ok, first off, I am a sucker for chick flicks. For some reason I like to be emotionally manipulated by movies and a lot of these sappy romance flicks do the job pretty well. What Dreams May Come is really a hell of a lot more though. The simple but powerful romance between the two main characters comes quickly to a disaster on top of a disaster. Then the story turns to one mans quest traveling through heaven and hell to find the woman he loves. The movie has a mix of amazing visuals, a powerful story and excellent acting. While a little bit too much in a lot of cases, and certainly designed to tug the heart strings like a puppet, it really does work and is very entertaining. The DVD is quite impressive with a sharp as glass 16x9 enhanced picture and a nice full Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. There is a directors commentary track on the disc as well. Overall a very powerful film with some really nice eye candy. Maybe not a keeper, but definitely one to rent.
