This is one of my long time favorites. Take a guy who was born 1000 years out of his time, or a man who is just one notch outside of "normal". He has his own view of the world as a slimy pit of sex, greed and corruption. He sees the worst that life has to offer. He knows he was destined for something. He knows he has to DO something. And during this movie you watch him walk that path. Taxi Driver is a pretty disturbing movie, from its imagery to the slow downward spiral of the main character. Martin Scorsese really shows his ability to capture the mind of someone it is very difficult to relate to, and lets you relate to him. It is truly no wonder that this film was number 47 in the 100 greatest american films of all time. The DVD is a true collectors piece. While only having Dolby Surround, it would be hard to bring it into Dolby Digital and add much. The picture is a pretty sharp 16x9 enhanced transfer and the disc includes a making of feature with the director and cast. A much better disc than the original that came out earlier, and definitly a must purchase for a fan of the film.
