Your Friends and Neighbors is a story about five really messed up people and a monster. We watch as these dolts fumble through their relationships only to find an inconclusive ending. The movie seemed to center around the various bed habits of these folks as they mix with incompatible partners. The word love is used a couple of times but it is really shallow. None of the people seem to have any passion in them at all. It was like watching five dead people. The monster is a horror to watch and listen to. While I have often wished a certain character a bad end, I cant recall ever feeling that such a death was needed until now. This creature needs to be removed from the world he infects, and unfortunately we get no satisfaction in this end. Even worse, we see him pollute everyone in the circle of characters. The direction and acting were both good. The characters were very full, but their lack of souls really hurt the film. Frankly if they were all killed in some freak yuppy plague, I wouldnt bat an eye. The DVD is a good representation of the movie with a detailed Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack and a solid 16x9 enhanced 2.35 to 1 picture. Overall, I really dont think this movie leaves me with a lot. Frankly it makes me just feel sad and angry, so how can I give it a good rating?
