Conan the Barbarian is one of my three favorite movies during my childhood along with Time Bandits and Excalibur. Conan is a story built around simplicity and single mindedness. Conan is a story about vengeance. While other emotions such as sadness, love and joy seap in occasionally, his true calling always comes fourth. I have seen this movie hundreds of times and it gets better each time. The wonderful costume work, the excellent casting, the awesome set design and the plot that mirrors a zen circle in it's simplicity and perfection all put together one of the greatest tales ever put on film. This movie was built for John Milius. It is funny how clear it became that I knew the movie better than Arnold did as he seemed to forget the plot or how a scene went out and my mind had already taken it a step further. He did have some great quotes though. "I sure got laid a lot in this movie" being my favorite. Still the commentary is very informative and easy to watch without looking at the time. Conan is a monumental film and this DVD does a perfect job putting it in the medium it deserves. If you are a fan, pick it up. If you are not, than to hell with you.
