This DVD was one of the most anticipated discs for a long long time. Finally the DVD hits the shelves and it doesn't disappoint...too much. Very very loosely based on a Stephen King story, Shawshank is probably the best movie ever adapted form a King novel (although Children of the Corn III is a close second). We are taken on a story of a man falsely accused of killing his wife and his 20 year ordeal in Shawshank prison. He befriends Morgan Freeman, a long timer who "can get things". The story is excellent and has probably one of the best endings I can remember seeing in a movie this quality (which usually end with the main character dying of cancer or getting drawn and quartered). Truly an excellent movie. The DVD had an excellent 1.85 to 1 16x9 enhanced picture and a great Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. There were unfortunately no extras. One of the truly great movies of it's time.
